15-year-old girl believed to be in extreme danger

Police say 15-year-old Chastinea Reeves was last seen in the area of 2027 Maine Street in Gary on Monday.

Family members told NBC 5 her mother was the victim of a "violent crime", and Chastinea had gone for help when she went missing.

Over the past ten years in IN, police said only two children who had Amber Alerts issued were found dead.

Gary police have so far not released details regarding the crime committed against the teen's mother.

She is believed to be in extreme danger.

There's a specific set of guidelines a case must meet to become an Amber Alert and police said if it's used too much it's simply not as effective.

Westerfield a day earlier during a Monday news conference made a plea for Reeves to contact police. "We need to make sure you're safe". As of Tuesday morning, the coroner's office was not disclosing what Garnett's injuries were because of an ongoing investigation, he said.
