Penelope Cruz to play famous designer in 'Versace: American Crime Story'

Gianni, 50, was shot dead on July 15 1997 at his home in Miami Beach, after returning from a walk. Edgar Ramirez is set to portray fashion designer Gianni Versace and Darren Criss to portray his murderer Andrew Cunanan.

Versace: American Crime Story will see screenwriter Rom Rob Smith (Child 44, London Spy) episodically adapt Maureen Orth's 1999 book Vulgar Favors, also serving as an executive producer alongside Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk, and, of course, the brand's primary visionary in Ryan Murphy.

The limited series show, created by Ryan Murphy, centers each season around a famous true crime - the first season was the award-winning "The People v. O. J. Simpson"; the second season, now in development, focuses on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Over the years, he's been able to lure top tier thespian talent to his television shows-from Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, and Angela Bassett in the American Horror Story franchises, to Julia Roberts in The Normal Heart, Susan Sarandon (with Lange) and Catherine-Zeta Jones in Feud, and just recently, the peerless Annette Bening for Katrina: American Crime Story. Talk about a double whammy!

Gennady Golovkin vs. Daniel Jacobs: Winner, Scorecard and Reaction
Prior to the fight, Golovkin had scored 23 straight knockouts and was recognized as the most frightening boxer on the planet. On the horizon now for Golovkin is that elusive meeting with Alvarez, who faces Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in the ring in May.

"No, she will not [play her]", Murphy told reporters in January. Look for her later this year in the film adaptation of Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express, alongside Kenneth Branagh, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Josh Gad, and Judi Dench.

She has also been a muse for Pedro Almodovar, starring in some of his best work like 2006's Volver.

What do you think of Cruz's casting? Though Pepe Cruz is a surprising, and wholly welcome, choice for Donatella, she's got some big, Gina Gershon-sized stilettoes to fill. Hit the comments to dish and discuss.
