'Fate of the Furious' Breaks Box Office Record

Not only this, when we talk about the English movies released in India recently, Fast and Furious has emerged as the biggest release and strongest performer.

The eighth edition however, of the series movie, with title "Fate of the Furious" broke the record in the global box office with a total revenue weekend 532.5 million dollars, surpassing that of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" which was opened with $ 529 million.

But it's the global total that everyone is looking at - if that number holds when the final numbers come in on Monday, Furious 8 will eclipse Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the BIGGEST WORLDWIDE OPENING EVER! According to the figures released by BollywoodHungama.com, Begum Jaan earned Rs 3.94 Cr on the opening day while Fast and Furious 8 cashed in Rs 6.29 Cr. Of its total revenue, the film collected $100.2 million in the U.S. and a $432.2 million in the overseas market. Clearly, the eight film franchise is doing something right.

The Fate of the Furious saw three-day takings of $190m (£151m) in China. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures,"While we rejoice over ₹ 100 cr, ₹ 200 cr, ₹ 300 cr, #Furious8 collects $ 188.85 million in its long wknd in China".

Its nearest competitor was The Boss Baby, which took a further $15.5m (£12.4m) to land second place.

The action thriller stars Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson, and Vin Diesel, who said he felt "grateful, humbled and blessed" after the film's success.

The new picture is the costliest so far, with a budget of $250 million, according to Box Office Mojo, nearly double the cost of some of the earlier installments. Walt Disney Co.'s live action adaptation "Beauty and the Beast" added an estimated $13.6 million to the $1 billion it has generated in ticket sales globally.

"Fate of the Furious" brings back the most hilarious characters and fan favorites. "Furious 7", which reaped $147 million in North America in its opening weekend, still ranks as the biggest April debut on record and the sixth-highest-grossing movie worldwide of all time.
