Was gunman ready to head home before congressman's shooting?

He remains in critical condition.

While no motive has been established for the attack, authorities are considering Hodgkinson's political beliefs as a possible driver, according to the Post. Sen.

It was not clear if Hodgkinson had planned the attack, or for how long.

The list included Republicans Rep. Trent Franks of Arizona, Rep. Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama, and one or two other names, officials told the network.

Though there are no other legal problems listed in St. Clair County, which includes Belleville, since 2011, Hodgkinson did come to the attention of local law enforcement as recently as March 24.

Meanwhile, Congress is getting back to business today.

Hodgkinson, a 66-year-old former home builder and lead removal contractor, had run-ins with police but no felony convictions.

In 2006, Hodgkinson was arrested on assault charges and threatening someone with a shotgun. He had run out of money, his wife told reporters. He allegedly punched a woman who was a friend of the girl. He had a foster child daughter who died of suicide. She said Hodgkinson was home all day, and she suspected he left because "he just wanted a break from it".

During the dispute, Moreland said, she jumped in a auto with her friend, but Hodgkinson opened the vehicle's door and hit her, then used a knife to cut the seat belt off his foster daughter. "I can't wrap my head around it, okay?" Even his email address was basic: hodg@att.net.

"I just don't know what to tell you people", she said. "He asked me if this team was the Republican or Democrat team practicing".

Officials were aware Hodgkinson was living out of a white cargo van in Alexandria for months and was seen showering and working on a computer at a nearby YMCA. "From everything we've known in our interactions with him, he never tipped off and gave any indication that he was violent in any way".

"I'm sorry that he did this, but there's nothing I can do about it", she said, according to interviews posted on St. Louis television stations' websites. He always drank Budweiser from a can and drank alone, barely speaking to anyone, including the bartenders. "I can not believe it", she said. Sanders acknowledged Wednesday that Hodgkinson had apparently been among many volunteers on his 2016 campaign.

"I've obviously noticed a very different tone, but I don't think it's helpful" to blame one side or the other, Cramer said.
