Arsenal sign high performance coach Darren Burgess

Alexis Nunes and Steve Nicol examine the latest transfer rumours including Bayern Munich's interest in Alexis Sanchez.

The Australian will join from AFL side Port Adelaide from next month and is set to be in charge of the club's medical and fitness operations amongst a number of other areas.

And Arsenal are also in discussions with former Liverpool employee Darren Burgess, a highly rated high performance fitness coach of Aussie Rules team Port Adelaide, to boost the Wenger's back room team.

It suggests Port Adelaide expect to maintain the fitness program Burgess has put in place with their existing staff.

It remains to be seen if the influence of Burgess, who worked with Australia at the World Cup in 2010, can help Wenger keep his key players fit and in peak condition as they seek to return to the Premier League's top four, having missed out on Champions League qualification by finishing fifth last season.

"Reaching this decision has been one of the toughest decisions in my professional career", he said.

"My family loves the lifestyle of Adelaide ... once you've worked in this environment with so many outstanding people it is very hard to leave".

The fitness guru rejoined the club in October 2012 to coincide with the arrival of coach Ken Hinkley, becoming the highest-paid high performance manager in the AFL.

He was most recently recruited to the Power from another EPL giant, Liverpool, where he spent a little under two-and-a-half years as head of fitness and conditioning. Port Adelaide is like family and once you've worked in this environment with so many outstanding people it is very hard to leave.

"I look forward to continuing having a relationship with Port Adelaide from afar and thank the entire club for their support and many great memories over two stints".
