SWFL dessert shop to celebrate National Ice Cream Day

National Ice Cream Day is the third Sunday in July.

National Ice Cream Month was created by President Ronald Reagan in 1984.

The giveaway's only open to people with the McDonald's mobile app.

At participating restaurants nationwide, free vanilla cones will be offered all day long through the McDonald's app, and one lucky guest will have the chance to win free soft serve for life.

One guest also will receive a special "Golden Arches Cone", an exclusive, limited-edition cone that entitles the victor to McDonald's soft serve for life. Here are a few places to satisfy your sweet tooth this weekend.

Here's how the deal works: With every adult purchase of a regular cone or scoop, the company offers a free classic orange cake cone with sprinkles to accompanying children 18 and under.

Wendy's: The chain will offer vanilla and chocolate Frosty for 50 cents through August 25.

Purple Cow ice cream, the retailer's brand, dates back to 1934 and now offers more than 40 flavors.

Steak N Shake, located inside Harrah's Casino, has buy one get one free coupons and other specials. That's Blue Bell's newest flavor. If your pet also loves the cold stuff, Pet Smart will be dishing up free "doggie sundaes" on Sunday.
