Actress kidnapping case: Kerala actor Dileep sent to 14-day judicial custody

Even now, after the arrest of the Mollywood actor in connection with a conspiracy to abduct and sexually assault a popular actress, Manju has maintained dignified silence. The court said that it would hear the bail plea only after two days, allowing the police to interrogate him in the meantime. Dileep's advocate alleged that the actor had been charged under Section 120 (B) of IPC amounting to conspiracy but had been framed in the case.

The popular actress, who has worked in Tamil and Telugu films, was abducted and allegedly molested inside her auto for two hours by the accused, who had forced their way into the vehicle on February 17 and later escaped in a busy area here.

The actor, who hails from Aluva, was hooted by a large crowd when he was taken from the van to the court.

But there are chances that the police would ask for an extension of the police custody for collecting evidence.

In police custody, a detailed questioning of the accused is required.

A few TV channels were slated to air Dileep's films, but are understood to have changed these at the last minute following his arrest for fear of losing the channels' ratings.

After the actor was arrested on Monday, his lawyer filed for bail, which was denied. He also owns his own production company besides a good number of multiplexes. The same people who had perhaps lined up in many previous occasions to applaud Dileep, hooted loudly as he was taken in and out from court. But by then the police had established the fact that Suni was at the shooting location of Dileep's film in Thrissur in November. He went onto state that he had nothing to do with the abduction of the actress and it's just a cheap ploy to malign his image just before the release of his film Ramaleela.

The decision, which turned out to be a unanimous one, was taken by the general body members of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) at a meeting held at Mammootty's residence on Tuesday.
