FAU's Jalen Young named to Jim Thorpe Award Watch List

The award is named after Jim Thorpe, one of the country's greatest all-around athletes of any era.

Duck intercepted five passes, tied with Bates for the most among freshman last season, while recording eight pass breakups and 54 tackles - a total that ranked fourth on the Mountaineers.

Oklahoma State safety Tre Flowers has been named to the watch list for the 2017 Paycom Jim Thorpe Award, the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame announced Friday morning.

The honor is Reed's third watch list recognition this week following his inclusion on the Bednarik Award and Nagurski Trophy lists, both honoring the best defensive player in college football.

This year marks the fifth time since 2011 a Wildcat is a candidate for the Jim Thorpe Award. Thorpe excelled as a running back, passer and kicker on the offensive side of the ball, but also stood out as a defensive back.

He made a team- and career-high 110 tackles on the season to become the first Penn State safety to lead the team in tackles since Shawn Mayer (144) in 2002. Blanding has finished the past three seasons No. 2 in the ACC in tackles and his 358 career stops now ranks No. 9 all-time in the UVA annals.

Young is coming off a stellar sophomore season in which he finished second on the team with 100 tackles, while also adding 1.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Season tickets for the Red Wolves' 2017 football campaign, which includes six home games, are available for purchase.

Single game tickets will be available for purchase beginning August 1.
