Liverpool: Lucas Leiva set for Lazio medical ahead of €5.5m move

Lucas Leiva will land in Rome on Sunday night as he closes in on a move to Lazio from Liverpool.

Lucas has been at Liverpool for a decade and is now the longest serving member of the Reds squad.

Although Jurgen Klopp is a fan of Lucas' versatility, it is no secret that the Reds boss is looking to strengthen his midfield and that would nearly certainly leave Lucas out in the cold.

Reports in both England and Italy suggest the transfer is likely to be concluded soon, with the Brazilian having been pulled from tonight's pre-season friendly against Wigan.

He has played 346 games for Liverpool, including 247 in the Premier League.

Lucas joined Liverpool in 2007 for £5m from Brazilian side Gremio and has been a terrific servant to the Anfield side over the years.

With Lucas Biglia on the verge of signing for AC Milan, Lazio are ready to replace him with Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva.

Lucas could prove to be a shrewd signing for Lazio thanks to his vast experience and versatility.

However, the midfielder is not expected to be a major part of manager Jurgen Klopp's plans this season, meaning a move away is the most likely outcome. A list of players to actually play in the first team is far more interesting than a list of youth products!
