High Court asks BCCI to lift life ban on Sreesanth

BCCI imposed a life ban on Sreesanth on all cricketing activities for his spot-fixing during the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League ( IPL) in 2013.

Sreesanth was banned from the game for life after he was charged with spot-fixing by the Delhi Police in 2013. The Board had even rejected Sreesanth's plea to lift the ban earlier this year to play in the Scottish League.

S Sreesanth had submitted that even the trial court which heard the match-fixing case observed that "no prima facie case in any offence, including Section 3 of MCOCA, is made out against the accused persons and they are entitled to be discharged". He was subsequently banned by BCCI. He also said he has started preparations for playing the game and his aim was to find a place in the Kerala team. Sreesanth might be able to go down the same path if he is given that one chance that he has been waiting for in the last four years. We were in Delhi during those days (arrest and subsequent court hearings) when he endured a lot. Now that High Court has given a verdict, hopefully, normalcy will return in his life.

Sreesanth was cleared of criminal charges by a sessions court but continued to face sanctions issued on him by the governing body, based on an internal disciplinary committee report. That's why BCCI, not long back, had filed an affidavit in the high court explaining its position.

Following the Delhi court's exoneration, Sreesanth approached the Kerala High Court in March this year, with a petition seeking the upliftment of the life ban imposed by the BCCI. Then how can the BCC impose a ban on him? "We don't know what will be their stand", George said. It'll be interesting to see if Sreesanth does make a comeback into the Ranji side. "There are some who don't want us to pursue the case but we have to take a considered view following legal advice", a top source told India Today. He was even thrown out of the Chinnaswamy Stadium past year when he went there with the Telugu Warriors to play in the Celebrity Cricket League.

S Sreesanth was known as a fiery speedster with prodigious talent and a never give up attitude in global cricket. I can pass on my experience to them and it would be great playing in the whites for my state.
