Florida mother charged with murder was headed to Buffalo

A Buffalo man said his estranged wife must have snapped after she was accused by police of dumping their 11-year-old daughter's dead body in West Virginia after driving for two days with the corpse.

Authorities found the woman and the body of her daughter on a road. According to the complaint, Newsome asked to speak with an officer, whom she later told she had "killed her daughter and was abusive to her".

"It was obvious that the 11-year-old did not die from injuries from the accident", Barlow said.

Media reports from West Virginia said Newsome was on her way to Buffalo with the child's body Sunday morning when her auto struck a guard rail on Allegheny Mountain, a mile and a half west of the Virginia border.

She planned to drive to Buffalo, New York, where Kaye-lea's father lives.

He added that Newsome was a "great mother" and that "something is very, very wrong".

Authorities say Erica Newsome, has been jailed on charges of concealing the body of her daughter, Kaye-lea Plummer.

Plummer said the couple married in 2007 and separated two years later.

The West Virginia MetroNews said investigators determined that the child was killed in Jacksonville and then loaded into Newsome's vehicle. Reports from West Virginia say Newsome confessed to killing and abusing Kaye-Lea. Her bond was placed at $50,000.

Jacksonville deputies were in West Virginia Monday to review evidence as part of their ongoing investigation.

According to MetroNews in West Virginia, the child's body was taken to the state Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. The crime scene was processed and foul play is suspected in the child's death.

West Virginia State Police say Erica Newsome crashed her auto Sunday morning in the Allegheny Mountains, and witnesses reported they saw her trying to hide her daughter's body by a hill.

Officials said detectives from the Jacksonville, Florida Sheriff's Department and the West Virginia State Police Department-Marlinton Detachment will investigate the vehicle accident and Kaye-lea Plummer's death.
