Overwatch Finally Adding Deathmatch Modes, Playable Now For Some

When it comes out of testing, Deathmatch will make its way to the Arcade mode due to its focus on taking out opposing players rather can competing for specific objectives on the map.

There's also a new map specifically created for free-for-all Deathmatch in the works rife with open areas, tight corridors and other mechanics. Apparently, the feature that was added late in 2016 is what finally convinced him that a free for all would be viable.

Team Deathmatch and Free-for-All are identical to what we have already experienced in other first-person shooters. As Jeff Kaplan announces in a new developer update, Arcade is the flawless place to implement the deathmatch mode players have been requesting for more than a year. Additionally, story elements for the character will be sprinkled throughout the map similar to Winston and the Horizon Lunar Colony map. The first player to reach 20 kills in the mode will officially be declared the victor.

Deathmatch will also contain a series of maps which have been slightly modified for the new mode, as well as a brand new map, Chateau Guillard. The home of Widowmaker, this French estate resembles buildings seen in the Dishonored series, and it should provide some close-range combat opportunities, which is ironic, given that the Widowmaker is a sniper. Before this week, Blizzard had said that deathmatch modes did not contribute to the cooperative ethos of the game. You'll still collect Arcade loot boxes as long as you end up being in the top half of players in a match.

This was revealed by Jeff Kaplan, director of Overwatch, in a recent development video. As such, the previous stance against Overwatch Deathmatch was reversed.
