Amit Shah formally invites Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) to join NDA

According to JD-U sources, the decision to remove Sharad Yadav from the party post has been communicated to the Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu. Narayan said that the decision was taken because of Yadav's recent actions - hinting at his disapproval of Nitish Kumar joining hands with BJP. "Sharad Yadav has been addressing RJD workers on his state tour, but not one JD (U) MLA is with him, not one JD (U) district chief with them", claimed Tyagi.

JD-U spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan confirmed the removal of Sharad Yadav to IANS. Nitish Kumar himself says that the JD (U) does not exist outside Bihar.

Earlier in the day, the JD (U) replaced Mr Yadav with R.C.P. Singh as its leader in the Rajya Sabha. If he keeps a different opinion, then he is free to do so, Nitish had told reporters after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"(We are taking) Necessary step because being leader if a person indulges in anti-party activities it has to be condemned unanimously", Singh added.

Besides the JD (U), Lalu Prasad's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress were in the three-party coalition. Nitish could be made the NDA convener and at least two representatives of JD (U) could be inducted in the Union Cabinet, with RCP Singh likely to be one of them.

A meeting of 16 opposition parties convened by Sonia Gandhi on Friday chose to extend their cooperation beyond the Parliament floor.

Ansari said that everyone, be it opposition parties, social leaders or anyone with human values, should unite against the "divisive forces" (BJP and RSS). "I continue to stand for the 'gathbandhan'", he had said.

Attacking Sharad Yadav who has planned a show of strength in New Delhi on August 17, Tyagi said, "Sharad Yadav has shot an arrow in the dark". We are not going to get cowed down by such threats.

The JD (U) on Saturday affirmed that there is no split in the party, however, adding it's not hopeful of Yadav and Ali Anwar of attending the party meeting on August 19.
